Looking for the Blue Bird” Fair

The Department of Cultural and Creative Industries of College of Humanities and Social Sciences in National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences held a creative fair -- “Looking for the Blue Bird”— at the coffee square of KUAS Jiangong campus. This fair was initiated by The Department of Cultural and Creative Industries and was joined by eight universities, including Cheng Shiu University, Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Chaoyang University of Technology, Shu-Te University, National University of Tainan, Tainan University of Technology and Aletheia University. Handmade, creative crafts, clothes and novelty products designed and produced by the students were sold at the fair. The profits of the fair will be donated to the social welfare organizations to help the underprivileged population. The creative fair is an annual event organized by the Department of Cultural and Creative Industries. This year, the Department expanded the fair by inviting other universities, in hope that more people will support cultural and creative industries in Taiwan.

The theme of the fair was inspired by the literary work-- “The Blue Bird”. The protagonists of the story are a little boy and his younger sister. To find a cure for their neighbor’s disease, they started their journey for finding the legendary blue bird. Therefore, the blue bird has become a symbol of messenger of happiness. The organizers of the fair believed the role of the fair was like the blue bird, bringing happiness to people in need.

The products sold at the fair are quite diversified. Hand-made wool felt, wooden jewelry, hand-painted postcards, stickers, clothing, and customized rubber stamps are popular items. Moreover, popular fair food sold at the fair last year, such as bamboo rice made by Taiwanese aborigines, coffee, jelly and hot dogs were again available this year.
